Nursing4n00bs needs your help!
Sup everyone.
I don’t really like the idea of using this blog as a platform for my personal gain, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Here’s a little bit about my situation: I graduated with my BSN last May, got my RN over the summer and since then have sent out 300+ applications with few results. Still very much unemployed. One disadvantage I’m facing is that I’ve had no internships or experience as a nurse’s aid, both of which I’m pretty much disqualified for now that I have my license. I’ve been trying to do stuff to better myself over the past few months; lots of resume edits, got a license for a neighboring state, started volunteering with a local ambulance corps and soon hopefully at a women’s shelter, started this blog to keep my memory fresh, gone in person to HR offices asking about my application status, practiced interview skills. So my question is,
What else I should be doing? I feel like there’s something severely wrong with this picture. I know the economy is in the toilet, but I feel like I’m the last person out of my graduating class to still be unemployed. I never thought I’d be out of work after I got my RN! All suggestions are welcome.
PS) This is less realistic, but if anyone has any connections with healthcare HR departments in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley, Westchester, NYC, Long Island or Southwest Connecticut - I would be forever grateful if you could put me into contact with them!

for smaller/more rural hospitals have you tried calling/contacting directly and asking what’d make you a good candidate? someone on allnurses suggested that. or maybe starting in a clinic/urgent care center? or school? i know maybe not ideal but..=/$

I took a job at a little rehab facility just to get experience. It is certainly not where I imagined myself but I’m making money and gaining experience which is more than I can say for the people holding out for that dream job.

Doesn’t any of them offer GN Programs? I mean we have it here in mid-east Texas. You’ll be under preceptorship for at least 6 months and the total contract is 2 years. After that, you are free to go to any hospital you want to.

Be willing to move? :/ I’m not graduating until this summer, but I’m already aware that there are very few job opportunities within my state. I’m applying in several different states for that reason.
